Magpies Season Launch: Rain, Pizzas, and Sydney Swans Stars!
What a way to kick off the 2026 season! Despite the drizzly weather on Thursday, March 26, the Inner West Magpies Juniors proved that it takes more than a bit of rain to dampen our spirits. Even with the gray skies, the energy at the nest was electric.
Navigating ‘Lake Wagener’
The rain might have moved the jersey presentations indoors, but the kids certainly didn't mind. In fact, many of them spent the afternoon having the time of their lives in what we’ve affectionately dubbed "Lake Wagener." Watching them running around, soaked to the bone and grinning from ear to ear, was a great reminder of what junior footy is all about—having fun regardless of the conditions!
Swans in the Nest
The highlight of the evening was welcoming our special guests from the Sydney Swans, Brodie Grundy and Tom McCartin. Both Brodie and Tom were absolute legends, hanging out in the rooms with the different age groups, handing out the 2026 jerseys, and jumping into plenty of team photos and selfies.
The Best-Laid Plans...
They say even the best-laid plans can be tested by the weather, but we pulled it off! It was a massive logistical effort to shift things around, but we got it done. A huge thank you to our incredible committee for their hard work. Special shout-outs go to:
Tegan, Julia, and the Magpie Committee for their tireless coordination.
Alex for the mammoth task of picking up 80+ pizzas to ensure the hungry Magpies were well-fed. For those who hung around, it was a total pizza feast!
The 2026 season is officially underway, and if the spirit shown on Thursday is anything to go by, it’s going to be a cracker.
Go Magpies!
Big thanks to @NatSportsMedia for the photos.
