Turning the Nest Pink - Go Pink for our Magpie Mums
Turning the Nest Pink: A Mother’s Day to Remember at Wagener Oval. There is something special about a ‘home ground’ weekend, but when you combine 13 home games with a sea of pink and a mission to make a difference, it becomes something truly unforgettable.
This past Mother’s Day weekend, the Inner West Magpies community didn't just show up to play football; they showed up to support one another. We are incredibly proud to announce that through your collective generosity, we raised $1,300 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
A Community in Bloom
From the first bounce of the Auskickers on Saturday morning to the final whistle of the U17 Girls on Sunday afternoon, Wagener Oval was transformed. Players took to the field in pink armbands and socks, while the sidelines were a blur of pink scarves, hats, and even the occasional pink-clad family dog!
But the real magic happened at the "Pink Canteen." The response to our call for donations was overwhelming. We saw a literal mountain of pink cupcakes, homemade slices, and treats that looked almost too good to eat (though they certainly didn't last long!).
It Takes a Village
An event of this scale—hosting every single one of our club's teams at home across two days—is a massive logistical feat. To do it while running a fundraiser requires a special kind of dedication.
To our volunteers: Thank you. Thank you. Whether you were the first one there at 7:00 AM to fire up the BBQ, the parent who stayed an extra hour to sell raffle tickets, or the person behind the scenes organising the games, you are the heartbeat of this club. You proved once again that "Building the Nest" isn't just a slogan; it’s how we operate.
To our Magpie Mums: We hope you felt the love. This weekend was for you. Seeing our players compete with pride and our families celebrate together was the perfect tribute to everything you do for us year-round.
The Mission Continues
While the goal posts have been packed away for the week, the fight against breast cancer continues. The $1,300 we raised together will go directly toward life-changing research, but there is always more we can do.
If you missed the chance to donate at the ground or would like to contribute further to help the NBCF reach its goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030, you can still support them via the link below:

Thank you, Magpies. You’ve shown that while we wear black and white, our community has a heart of pure pink.
Big thanks to @NatSportsMedia for the amazing photos.
